Our Story
Previously, the Virginia Tech Football team played their games at Miles Stadium, which stood on what is now a residential quad on campus. In 1964, Stuart Cassell proposed the idea to construct a new stadium to accommodate more fans in a prime location. Construction began in 1964, once the project was funded. The new stadium was named after Edward H. Lane, who helped raise a significant amount for the project. The Hokies played their first game in Lane Stadium in 1965, but construction was not complete until 1968.
The biggest addition to the stadium happened in 2003, when they added on to the west side. The $52.5 million expansion included 23 luxury suites, a new press box and club seating. The President’s Club, located on the 4th floor, was part of the expansion. This is a space where the President of the University invites distinguished alumni, state officials, and other VIP guests to enjoy the game in a large, private area. This space remained empty other than home games. Beginning in 2021, Invited brought the space to life the rest of the year by introducing the University Club of Virginia Tech to Lane Stadium. The Club is a premier social and business Club, open to Members only to dine, celebrate and connect.
